In his first official reaction after being discharged from the St Thomas' hospital on Sunday, UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson profusely thanked the NHS for saving his life. He mentioned that the efforts of millions of Britons to stay home were worthwhile. Thereafter, he exuded confidence that all the people of the UK would successfully overcome the novel coronavirus crisis.
Johnson was admitted to the hospital on April 5 as his COVID-19 symptoms persisted. He later spent three nights in the ICU before returning to a normal ward on Thursday. Currently, there are 78,991 confirmed novel coronavirus cases in the UK while over 10,000 individuals have passed away. As per a statement, Johnson would not immediately resume his duties and will continue to recuperate at his residence.
Boris Johnson diagnosed with COVID-19
On March 27, the UK PM had tested positive for the novel coronavirus. He announced this via a post on Twitter. He stated that he developed mild symptoms of COVID-19 such as persistent cough and fever over the last 24 hours. Thereafter, he took a test on the advice of the Chief Medical Officer, which came out positive.
As a result, Johnson stated that he was working from home and self-isolating. At the same time, he exuded confidence that the UK would get through this phase successfully by complying with the necessary measures. He urged upon everyone to stop the spread of COVID-19 from household to household. On Monday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed solidarity with his UK counterpart and expressed hope that the latter would be discharged from the hospital.
