Essex police discovered 39 bodies from a lorry container on October 23 parked in Waterglade Industrial Park in southeast England. Police have launched a multiple-murder investigation and have arrested the 25-year-old lorry driver. All the 39 people, including a teenager, were declared dead at the scene, reported British media. The police, who are now working on the identification of the bodies, said that it can be a “lengthy process” given the scale of the crime.
Security cordon in the area
Chief Superintendent Andrew Mariner said that the incident is tragic in nature where a large number of people have lost their lives and they are investigating to establish the whole scenario, reported a British daily. Police have thrown a security cordon at the Waterglade Industrial Park. Mariner also said that the security will affect the local businesses in the area and they will try to ensure the disruption is kept short.
According to media reports, the lorry was registered in Bulgaria and it had entered the county through Holyhead, Wales on October 19. Holyhead is one of the busiest ferry port in the UK and is the terminus of the North Wales Coast Line.
