On Saturday, Britons witnessed coronation of King Charles III, however, it was his fingers that attracted attention and concern among many. On May 6, former Prince of Wales ascended British throne following death of his mor Queen Elizabeth II who was country’s longest-serving monarch. Despite glorious robes and all royal jewels, Charle’s red and swollen fingers grabbed attention of fans of royal family, Independent UK reported. 

new British monarch’s fingers first grabbed eyeballs after he succeeded his mor, following her death. When new King signed accession, his fingers appeared excessively red and swollen. According to Independent UK, Charles’ ims of taking over throne prompted speculations from various members of medical community. community gave a name to issue as well. As per British news outlet, many believed that Charles was suffering from a condition called 'Oedema'.

What is Oedema?

According to UK’s National Health Service (NHS) Oedema is characterised as a condition in which a person's arms, hands, ankles and or parts of body get swollen. Health experts believe that swelling is caused by fluid retention in se areas. As per  website of NHS, condition is caused for several reasons, including standing or sitting in same position for too long, eating too much salty food, being overweight or taking certain medications like blood pressure medicines, contraceptive pills, hormone rapy, antidepressants or steroids.

King Charles' Fingers: A curious topic for UK

While Charles’ fingers have grabbed attention of netizens recently, his hands were a topic of discussion since day he was born. According to Mirror, new monarch’s late mor, Queen Elizabeth II mentioned Charles' swollen hands in a letter to his former music teacher. “ baby is very sweet and we are ermously proud of him. He has an interesting pair of hands for a baby,” queen wrote in letter. “y are rar large, but with fine long fingers quite unlike mine and certainly unlike his far’s. It will be interesting to see what y become. I still find it hard to believe I have a baby of my own!” Queen exclaimed.

In 2018, n Duke of Cambridge and Charles’ son Prince William me a ligharted reference to Charles’ fingers on occasion of Charles’ 70th birthday. During speech, William urged King to stop using his “saus fingers” to write letters. William asked king to spend more time with his grandchildren inste, Independent UK reported. remarks by w-Prince of Wales attracted a lot of attention online and since n Charles’ fingers were called 'saus fingers'.
