On September 23, while talking to reporters in New York, The Prime Minister of UK, Boris Johnson warned that there might not be any Brexit breakthrough talks with the European leaders. The gaps in the deal remained however significant progress in striking a deal has been made. PM Johnson reportedly will discuss the progress of Brexit deal with European Council President, Donald Tusk. Boris Johnson does not want to elevate the belief that there will a New York breakthrough.

The Brexit deal

According to PM Johnson's statement to media, a great deal of progress has been made since he took on the office. The European Union leaders have also taken the change required in the Withdrawl Agreement to their notice. However, there were still gaps and difficulties like the UK PM wants to remove the 'backstop'. It was an insurance policy aiming at avoiding a hard border on Ireland. It would also lead to Britain following the bloc's rules on trade, state aid, labour, and environmental standards. Whichever way the deal might incline, Ireland remains crucial unless the backstop from Irish border is removed. PM Johnson will not be able to win the majority of lawmakers in the parliament however, Ireland and the European Union are not willing to sign a deal to reach a solution.

October 31

Boris Johnson has promised that Brexit deal shall come to action on October 31, after the European Union summit on October 17 where important decisions might take place. While attending the 74th United Nations global summit, PM Johnson will also meet several EU leaders on the sidelines including Germany's Angela Merkel and Leo Varadkar, the Irish Prime Minister. It is after a span of three years since the people of Britain voted to leave the European Union. However, a breakthrough was reached when according to PM Johnson an agreement was possible on Brexit. Moreover, Boris Johnson has also expressed his wish to secure a deal at the EU summit and large members of the EU also wish to reach an agreement. The UK PM believes that Britain's entire exclusion from the EU law is important.
