At UNGA, El Salvador President clicks selfie before his maiden speech

El Salvador President Nayib Bukele took the attendees at the UN General Assembly by surprise after he clicked a selfie ahead of his maiden speech on Thursday

Ahead of his maiden speech at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) on Thursday, El Salvador President Nayib Bukele took the opportunity to click a selfie and took the other participants by surprise. "If you'll just bear with me a second," he said, pulling out his phone, lifting it up to his smiling face and then clicking a selfie. He later posted the picture on Twitter, to his many followers. The 38-year-old President of El Salvador was dressed in a dark suit and no tie, with his hair slicked back.

The UN Selfie

As per reports, his wife and baby daughter were also sitting in the gallery as he gave his maiden speech at the UNGA on Thursday. Speaking about the picture, he asserted that a lot of people will see that selfie and when they will share it, they will listen his UNGA speech.

"I assure you that this 'selfie' that I will upload to social networks will be seen by more people than those who are watching this speech. The population has already changed and politicians have not yet understood," the El Salvador President said.

Bukele meets Trump

Earlier on Wednesday, El Salvador President Nayib Bukele held his first meeting US President Donald Trump. Following the meeting, Nayib Bukele told the reporters that for El Salvador, United States, is not only a partner and an ally, but a friend also. 

"We're hoping that this meeting will only strengthen our relationship even more, and I think it will because, you know, President Trump is very nice and cool, and I'm nice and cool, too. We both use Twitter a lot, so, you know, we'll get along," he had told reporters, as reported by news agency ANI. 

The former Mayor of the capital San Salvador and a conservative businessman, Nayib Bukele was sworn into office in June in the small Central American country of 6.6 million people.
