Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden briefly answered questions from reporters at the Scranton-Wilkes Barre International Airport in Avoca, Pennsylvania on Thursday night, after speaking with voters during a televised town hall. Biden was heading home to Delaware after the event.
Biden told reporters that he saw during the town hall how the coronavirus is on a lot of peoples' minds. He also expressed confidence that he can win over voters in Scranton, where he lived as a child, and in Pennsylvania.
During the town hall, Biden derided President Donald Trump for his handling of COVID-19, calling his downplaying of the pandemic “criminal” and his administration “totally irresponsible.” Speaking about Trump’s admission that he publicly played down the impact of the virus while aware of its severity, Biden declared: “He knew it and did nothing. It’s close to criminal.”
The town hall had an unusual format due to the coronavirus pandemic. It was a drive-in of 35 cars parked outside PNC Field, which is a minor league baseball stadium. Audience members watched Biden onstage as they listened from outside their cars or from radios inside their cars.
