Connecticut reports 17 new coronavirus deaths

Connecticut has reported 17 new coronavirus deaths, bringing its total to 4,055, the governor announced Saturday as the state prepares for an accelerated reopening of businesses.

Gov. Ned Lamont’s office announced Friday that a second phase of reopening, originally scheduled to begin for June 20, will now happen on June 17. That is when movie theaters, tattoo parlors, spas, gyms, fitness studios, bowling alleys and amusement parks and nail salons will be allowed to open again and restaurants can resume indoor dining.

On Saturday. Lamont said the number of positive cases grew by more than 350, to more than 43,800.

For most people, the virus causes mild or moderate symptoms. For some, especially older adults and people with existing health problems, it can cause more severe illness or lead to death.
