In a decision that can heighten tensions between the United States of America and Iran, the Donald Trump administration based in Washington D.C. has issued fresh sanctions on space agencies owned by Iran.
The Iran space agency and two of its research organizations have been pinned under the newly imposed sanctions. Animosity has been prevalent between the two nations since President Trump's decision to back out of the nuclear deal and reimpose sanctions that had a paralyzing effect on Iran's economic status.
US detains Iranian ship
In its latest attempt, US detained Iranian ship Adrian Daryya 1 and in its defense, America said that it had credible information that the ship was carrying oil to Syria that violated the European Union sanctions. The United States of America also issued a sanction against Adrian Darya 1's captain, Akhilesh Kumar.
The ship, having an official name- Grace 1, is right in the center of the storm that is brewing between USA and Iran. The decision taken by the US automatically implied that anyone having the thought of helping Iran in any way will be under the risk of having sanctions imposed against them.
Iran refuses negotiations
With the Iranian space agencies under the US imposed sanctions, Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said that his country would not be in the position of renegotiating the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, but a suitable implementation of the deal can be the topic of negotiations.
On September 3, Iran's President, Hassan Rouhani had refuted indications of any kind of two-way talks being held between Iran and USA, stating that his country is not in favor of such negotiations.
In Hassan Rouhani's address to the parliament, he said that Iran was in a position to further back off from its commitments to a significant deal dating back to 2015 if the current dialogues do not reach any mutual decision.
On May 17, 2018, the European Commission made its decision public about implementing the blocking stature of 1996 to state that the US imposed sanctions on Iran were illegal in Europe and that European citizens should refrain from complying with the illegal sanctions. It further asked the European Investment Bank to help European companies with their financial ventures in Iran.
