With his latest piece, titled ‘Blue-Marble’, Sebastian Errazuris, a Chilean artist, has made a lot of people to stop and look in New York City. Known for his captivating and unique public art installations, Errazuris' latest project involves a monumental 20-foot LED structure that depicts a live stream of Earth from space. Installed in the middle of the city, the illuminated spherical sculpture has invited people to contemplate human existence in a form and scale one would never think of.

"Blue-Marble is a reminder of our miraculously fragile existence," explains Sebastian Errazuriz. “It places our very existence in perspective at a global level—as a tiny speck in space—beckoning us to live fully with awareness and mindfulness of our limited time on this vulnerable and beautiful planet," as stated on My Modern Met.

The project pays homage to the iconic 'Blue Marble' photo taken by Apollo 17 crew in 1972. Coincidentally, 2019 also celebrates the 50th anniversary of the first person walking over the Moon

The artwork is created using a custom-made LED screen that projects images of Earth as seen from space in real time. Errazuriz and his team designed a bot to acquire photographs from a NASA satellite which are merged using software that ultimately creates the beautiful video sequence.

Errazuris has made sure to showcase the installation on his Instagram so people do not miss out on it:
