A giant white shark weighing nearly 150 stone (952 kg) has been spotted by the scientists offshore at the East Coast of America on October 28. Reportedly, the huge fish is 2,076 lbs and is 16 feet in length. The great white shark which was tagged by the scientists is also the largest that has ever been in the northwestern Atlantic Ocean and has been named 'Unama'ki' which means 'land of the fog' in the language of Nova Scotia, Canada. Unama'ki is now headed off towards the Florida Keys.
Not the first time
This was not the first time when this particular white shark was noticed by scientists. Earlier, Unama'ki has been tagged off the coasts of North Carolina, Virginia Beach and Atlantic City which is reportedly great news for the scientists who wish to study sharks and wants to ensure their health like 'Ocearch' which is also an organization dedicated to marine life research. Ocearch hopes that Unama'ki will finally lead them to the place where these great white sharks go to give birth and expose a new white shark nursery. According to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conversation Commission, there is a higher probability of sharks being in the water at this time of the year. The panic among people generated by the great whites swimming near the shores was also ruled out because officials said these sharks are uninterested in humans.
Shark bites 2 men
On October 29, two British tourists were bitten by a shark at the Great Barrier Reef in Australia. The giant fish mauled one's foot and another's leg while they were on a snorkelling tour in the Whitsunday Islands when the incident took place. Paramedics treated both the men aged, 22 and 28 and were also taken to the hospital in Mackay in serious but stable conditions. However, the 28-year-old lost his foot. Another incident took place in Australia when a man was killed by a shark.
“An English tourist has had his foot bitten off and another has serious lacerations to his lower leg after a shark attack in the Whitsundays today,” the helicopter rescue service said in a statement. The victims told the helicopter crew “they were wrestling and thrashing about in the water” in a passage between Hayman and Whitsunday Islands when they were attacked, the statement said.
