New York Guv De Blasio: NYC social distancing 'impressive'
New York City's mayor says he's impressed by the social distancing efforts by New Yorkers as they battle the COVID-19 pandemic. "People deserve high marks," Bill de Blasio said.
New York City's mayor says he's impressed by the social distancing efforts by New Yorkers as they battle the COVID-19 pandemic. "People deserve high marks," Bill de Blasio said.
The comments come after video over the weekend captured an encounter between a New York City police officer who was caught on video Saturday pointing a stun gun at a man and violently taking him to the ground over an alleged social distancing violation.
The officer has been stripped of his gun and badge and placed on desk duty pending an internal investigation. De Blasio said he was "troubled" by the incident but insisted it was a "rarity."
The mayor also announced that the city has enough personal protective gear it anticipates needing for a week in order to fulfill its crisis standard and will begin distributing 7.5 million face coverings in the city.
De Blasio said testing efforts are continuing with nearly 13,000 individual tests taking place each day.
