Republicans: Impeachment trial will hurt Biden

Republican Senators on Monday said that the impeachment trial will backfire on the Democrats, especially on former Vice President and presidential candidate Joe Biden.

On Monday, Attorney Pam Bondi, representing the White House, said Ukrainian energy company Burisma was known to be corrupt and that Joe Biden's son Hunter served on the board at the same time his father was leading the Obama administration's anti-corruption efforts in Ukraine.

Bondi offered no evidence of wrongdoing by either Biden but said Democrats had improperly tried to dismiss questions raised by the younger Biden's role with Burisma.

Senator Jodi Ernst of Iowa said Iowa voters will notice the issue when they make their decision.

Senator John Barrasso of Wyoming said the other Democratic candidates will also use the Ukraine issue against Biden.

"Everyone was paying close attention to the discussion about the Bidens, but the four people whose eyes were fully wide open were (Democratic presidential candidates) Elizabeth Warren, Bernie Sanders, Michael Bennett and Amy Klobuchar, all leaning forward. I've never seen them all so attentive as to when this discussion was on Joe Biden," he said.
