US imposes travel sanctions on Cuban leader Raul Castro, says Pompeo

The United States accused the ex-President of Cuba Raul Castro of violating human rights, further imposing travel sanctions against the leader and his family

On September 27, the United States accused the ex-President of Cuba Raul Castro of violating human rights, further imposing travel sanctions against the leader and his family on September 26. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo in his statement to the international media said that when Castro was positioned as the first secretary of the Communist Party while it was in power he was responsible for the system which detains thousands of Cubans and has held more than 100 political prisoners. 

Castro restricted from travelling to the US

According to the reports, the imposed sanctions will restrict the former President and the brother of the late revolutionist Fidel Castro from traveling to the United States. The International media revealed that the orders will restrict his daughter Mariela Castro Espin as well, who is now a well established advocated fighting for gay rights and campaigning for  HIV/AIDS to spread awareness.

Espin faced retaliation

Espin who has last visited San Francisco and New York in 2012. She witnessed retaliation from the US-based critics against Castros. The decision was also made due to Raul Castro's inclination towards the leftist leader Nicolas Maduro serving as the current president of Venezuela at the time when its economy is suffering a severe downfall. Pompeo said in his statement that “the United States strongly supports the rights of the Cuban and Venezuelan people”. He further added that all the required measures will be taken to support the people of  Venezuela. He said the United States will pursue all the diplomatic and economic tools to help the Venezuelan people achieve the good life they deserve.

Trump committed to ending socialism 

According to the reports of international media, President Donald Trump committed to putting an end to socialism in Latin American. The stance of the US President will put an end to the misery to many Cuban and Venezuelan exiles in the politically tensed state of Florida. This move is considered to differentiate him from former President Barack Obama. Barack Obama also attempted to end the hostility through conversation with  Castro on his historic trip to Cuba in  2016.
