The former US ambassador to NATO Kurt Volker resigned on September 27 from his designation of a special envoy to the Eastern European nation according to the US officials. The resignation came after Volker was caught amid the whistleblower’s complaint about the telephonic conversation between Donald Trump and Ukraine President.

Volker was involved with Giuliani

The official said Volker told Secretary of State Mike Pompeo about the resignation on Friday by Volker. The decision came following the disclosure that Volker was involved in introducing Trump’s personal lawyer Rudy Giuliani with the Ukrainian officials to call for a probe for the former Vice President Joe Biden and his son who were alleged of corruption in their business dealings. Trump’s personal lawyer disclosed that he was constantly in contact with Volker, updating him about his efforts. There was no comment on Volker’s resignation from the State Department. They only acknowledged that Kurt Volker was responsible for contacting Giuliani with the Ukraine President and aiding the conversation. Mike Pompeo confirmed on September 26 that all employees at the State Department acted in the appropriate manner in dealing with Ukraine.

The investigation

The investigation asked by Trump was regarding unconfirmed charges that while Biden held the position of Vice President, he threatened to withhold US aid unless the prosecutor examining the case of the gas company in which Biden’s son was involved was fired. Biden, on the other hand, agreed to withhold the US power unless the prosecution lawyer was fired. A similar demand was made by the US government, the European Union and other international institutions for his alleged inability to pursue corruption cases.
