According to reports, The United States has said that it will put forward its case against Iran this week in the looming United Nations session stressing upon the fact that it wants to give diplomacy every chance to be successful amidst the backdrop of Saudi oil refinery attack. The move has come after Iran has said that it is prepared for any eventuality as tensions between two countries rise.
Pompeo dissipates Military threats
Reports indicate that US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has dissipated threats of US Military action against Iran preparing the stage for US President Donald Trump's address to UN General Assembly. Pompeo said that President Trump and him want to give diplomacy a chance to succeed. He said that his administration is taking this on in a serious way and is working hard to see that this (Iran situation) has a successful diplomatic outcome. He further said to make no mistake about it since if they are not successful in the Iran situation and Iran continues to act in this way, he is sure that President Trump will make decisions in accordance with their goals. The US has blamed Iran of carrying out surprise airstrikes that destroyed Saudi Arabia's Abqaiq plant and Khurais oil lands on September 14, snapping Saudi Arabia's output by half.
Secretary Pompeo had earlier called Saudi attacks one of the biggest attacks in global oil history. According to reports, However, despite warnings by Trump that the US armed forces were "locked and loaded", the US president rapidly softened his verbal attacks, putting Republican party war-advocates aside who cautioned that no vigorous response will be seen as a weakness on part of the United States.
The developments so far
According to reports, Trump has ordered an increase in sanctions against Iran and an increase in troop deployment in the Gulf which focus mostly on defences like air and missile defences. According to an interview, Pompeo said that Trump administration was aware deeply aware of the risks wrong calculation can lead to in the volatile region. He also said that: They (Administration) wants to resolve the Iran situation in a manner that does not involve military action that if it is plausible to attain that. Trump before leaving for Texas on September 22, hinted at a chance of meeting Iranian President Hassan Rouhani on the heels of UN General Assembly. Reportedly, he said that nothing is off the table completely and that he has no intention of meeting with Iran and it does not mean it will not happen and that he is a flexible person but has no intention adding that it is not set up.
The aggressive diplomacy has arrived as Iran honed its tone with caution from Revolutionary Guard Corps official Major General Hossein Salami, who said reportedly that country is ready for any type of scenario and whoever wishes their land to transform into a battlefield can go-ahead. Javed Zarif also tweeted about how President Trump wants a better deal for him and worse one for him-
Told @margbrennan: You sell me a building, but a year later the person who inherits your company comes & says, you didn't pay enough money, & he wants a better deal for himself & a worse one for me. In which "history", to use Mr. Trump's words, has someone agreed to that? pic.twitter.com/t5v2yWnviR
