The Gateway Foundation which is a startup in Alta Loma, California is planning to open its first space hotel to visitors by as early as 2027, according to an international news agency. A video was released by Insh which reveals how the first space hotel will look like. The Gateway Foundation has named its planned facility as the Von Braun Rotating Space Station. According to the news reports, the rotating space station will produce different levels of artificial gravity and is expected to accommodate up to 100 tourists a week when it opens in 2025.
The visitors will be able to walk around
It will basically look like a cruise ship style hotel sailing in low earth orbit. The visitors will be able to walk around as they do on earth. It will have restaurants, gyms, bars and even concert venues, seminars and movie screenings. The Von Braun Station will have a series of 24 modules that will come with different layouts. Some of them will be available for commercial or government use and will be sold as private residences and space villas. Tim Alatorre, the foundation's senior design architect said that The Gateway Foundation aims to gather the facility in orbit by 2025. He said that the foundation is striving hard to make this happen as there hasn't been much movement in the past to get the average person into space. He added that within a few years people may think of space as a normal vacation option.
Alatorre said that the space hotel will have very simple
Alatorre said that the space hotel will have very simple, comfortable and conventional decor instead of sleek and futuristic designs. He said that the use of fabrics, warm-colored lighting and paints, and materials with texture help us to connect and feel at home. He also said that initial activities for tourists might include low-gravity basketball, low-gravity rock climbing and trampolining. He even compared the station with a cruise or a Disney World vacation with activities like concerts, movies, and seminars.
