White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany Thursday said the United States worked closely with Britain and Canada - after intelligence agencies from the three countries accused Russian hackers of trying to steal information from researchers seeking a coronavirus vaccine, warning scientists and pharmaceutical companies to be alert for suspicious activity.
"The US worked very closely with our allies to ensure that we would take measures to keep that information safe," she said. "And we continue to do so."
The intelligence agencies in the three nations alleged that the hacking group APT29, also known as Cozy Bear and said to be part of the Russian intelligence services, is attacking academic and pharmaceutical research institutions involved in COVID-19 vaccine development.
McEnany said that President Donald Trump's Twitter account was secure after a breach in Twitter’s security that allowed hackers to break into the accounts of leaders and technology moguls.
She also defended the president's Rose Garden address earlier this week which was dominated by attacks against Trump's presumed Democratic opponent Joe Biden and Trump's current polling numbers.
