A wedding picture of a bride and groom wearing protective masks in the midst of raging wildfires in California has garnered a lot of attention as they got their wedding pictures clicked in the vineyard in hazardous conditions. The picture of Katie and Curtis Ferland, shows them standing outside California's Chateau St Jean winery in Sonoma County, which was not far from the raging wildfire incident that has burned more than 75000 acres of land.
A wedding picture in the midst of raging wildfires
While talking to an international media outlet, the wedding photographer, Karna Roa, said that the couple had been planning their wedding for the past one year and most of their guests had traveled from out of state for the ceremony.
With the concerned officials ordering mass evacuations of about 185000 people, a few of the wedding guests had to flee the accommodation in which they were staying to attend the wedding. Also, the conditions at the venue got so bad that the events of the ceremony had to be shifted inside but the wedding went on as planned as Katie and Curtis held the ceremony outside despite the hazardous conditions.
American Gothic painting
Karna said that while she was taking pictures of the couple in the vineyard, they thought of getting a few pictures clicked with the protective masks that are being used by a lot of people to protect themselves from breathing in toxic air. The photographer further added that as soon as the wedding couple put on the masks, she was reminded of American Gothic painting.
Hope to make people aware
Roa stated that the wedding was a success but it was a different experience altogether as it took place in the midst of raging wildfires. The photographer hoped that the picture will make people aware of the dire conditions in California and understand the large scale suffering that people are going through.
The Kincade fire incident
According to reports, the winds again picked up speed in further north of Sonoma County as more than 4000 firefighters are fighting to curb the Kincade fire that has prompted mass evacuations and long power outages. This led to Pacific Gas and Electric (PG&E) to initiate blackouts in the northern and the central parts of the state in order to reduce the risk of fire.
