The United States of America welcomed its first of the seven 'legal' cannabis cafe in West Hollywood, California. The Lowell Farms Cafe will be providing its customers with a variety of marijuana-based products, with an aim to eclipse the popularity of the Amsterdam based cannabis shops.
A 'Legal' cannabis restaurant
The much-awaited cafe will cater to 240 patrons and serve people more than 21 years of age. A special cannabis menu with a lot of options will be given to the customers.
Specially trained people known as the "Flower Hosts" or "budtenders" will help people coming in by giving them advice on the kind or the flavor of weed to be ordered along with the dish they order.
Lowell Farms will have $18 joints pre-rolled for the patrons, "honey oil" concentrates and add-ons such as bongs, pipes, and other vapor devices.
The cafe's executive chef, Andrea Drummer stated that it was an exciting experience to be a part of something historic as she interacted with the first set of customers on September 30. She further added that it was necessary for people to consume weed in a safe place.
While speaking to a media outlet, Drummer said that people from different parts of the world and one couple from Britain were coming in for the cafe's grand opening. The cafe comes in response to the US legalizing medicinal and recreational uses of marijuana in different parts of the country.
With the tag of the world's biggest legal weed market, California witnessed the legalization of recreational marijuana in the year 2018 and this led to a lot of people capitalizing on the multi-billion dollar rich industry.
A friendly approach
One of the "budtenders" at the Lowell Farms Cafe, Bianca said that it was very important to make the customers feel that the people attending to them were someone who they could approach without any apprehension. In addition to this, Bianca said that she wanted to have a very normal interaction with everyone, hoping that the customers open up and feel a bit more secure about their connection to cannabis.
Coffee shops have legal permission to sell cannabis for personal consumption
In Amsterdam, coffee shops are places that have the legal permission to sell cannabis for personal consumption. According to the set rules, only a limited amount of marijuana can be sold to customers that are over 21 years of age. Although, these shops are not allowed to sell liquor or other kinds of drugs to anyone especially minors. The basic idea behind the legalization in the Netherlands was incorporated in the 1970s to have a clear line drawn between hard and soft drugs.
