US President Donald Trump raked up quite a controversy with his claims about being asked by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to mediate in Kashmir issue, as he informed in the meeting with Pakistan PM Imran Khan on Monday night. Trump's claims have not only been dismissed by India, but his own country's lawmakers and diplomats as well.

Other than the lawmakers, international journalists have also opined on the US President shocking claims offering to mediate in Kashmir issue, which is a bilateral concern between India and Pakistan.

Edward Luce, English journalist and US commentator based in Washington, called out Donald Trump's lie, saying that 'Trump lied in the most idiotic way possible, one that was immediately refuted by fellow leader'. Reaffirming that India has always refused third party mediation over Kashmir issue, Luce added Trump has something deeply provocative to India by offering mediation on Kashmir, India being America's most important "natural ally" in its rivalry with China.

American political commentator David Frum took to Twitter and opined that it appears as if Pakistan PM Imran took advantage of Trump to drive a wedge between India and US relation over Kashmir issue.

DC National Security Correspondent Jonathan Landay called out Donald Trump's another lie.

Notably, in an attempt of damage control, US State Department Spokesperson speaking to news agency ANI said that the Kashmir issue was a bilateral one between India and Pakistan, adding that the foundation of any successful dialogue is based on Pakistan taking sustained and irreversible steps against terrorists on its territory.

In a quick response to US President's Kashmir lie, the Ministry of External Affairs released a statement saying that no such talks took place between PM Modi and Trump over Kashmir issue, while rejecting a third-party mediation.
