Protests against the Pakistan government grow louder in New York
Protests have spread out in NY, displaying their intentions while shouting outside the UN HQ and displaying their intent on trucks and cabs across the city
Protests against Pakistan and its Prime Minister Imran Khan grew louder in New York over the week, with protestors calling out the crimes committed in the country. The protestors have spread out, displaying their intentions, be it shouting outside the United Nations Headquarters, or even through exhibiting their thoughts on trucks and the yellow New York cabs.
Protests throughout the week
On Thursday, two trucks displaying the atrocities committed by the state in Karachi were spotted in the city. The two trucks later were later also seen parked outside the Westin hotel, where the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) leaders met, on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly. The trucks had an electronic display, which showed multiple messages against the country. The display read, 'Pakistan Stop supporting religious extremists', 'Justice for Karachi', 'Stop Human Rights Abuses in Karachi', '#Greater Karachi', and the trucks also showed many pictures of the crimes committed by the state. The protest was lead by an organization called the 'Voice of Karachi'.
On Friday, the protests had spread over to cabs as well, with many yellow cabs displaying the messages 'Protect Human Rights', 'Justice for Karachi' on the advertising section on top of the cabs. The campaign against Pakistan has been all out and has been made clear by the demonstrators. Voice of Karachi is a US-based advocacy group that is committed to raising global awareness about the plight in Karachi.
Continued protests all over the globe
At the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) meet in Geneva a few weeks ago, various protestors lined up in Geneva to protest against the crimes committed by Pakistan. There were signs of ‘Stop Baloch Genocide' in protests lead by various non-governmental organizations and civil society groups. The activists and protestors had organized the poster campaign to highlight the crimes committed by Pakistan and to divert attention to the "enforced killings and disappearances."
There were protestors lined up outside the UN HQ on Friday when the Pakistan Prime Minister was scheduled to deliver his speech to the General Assembly. In his speech, Khan spoke at length about the atrocities committed by the Indian government on religious minorities but ignored the globally known and proven crimes committed by its ally, China.
