Ticonderoga class guided missile cruiser, USS Shiloh departs Yokosuka, Japan

The Ticonderoga class-guided missile destroyer USS Shiloh (CG 67) departed Yokosuka, Japan. It departed on September 5, 23. It will transit into its new homeport of Pearl Harbour, Hawaii. It is part of the planned rotation of forces in the Pacific. USS Shiloh is a Ticonderoga class guided missile destroyer of the US Navy, in remembrance of the Battle of Shiloh during the American Civil War. She was built at the Bath Iron Works in Bath, Maine. With her guided missiles and rapid-fire cannons, she is capable of facing and defeating threats in the air, under the sea or ashore and also carries two Seahawk LAMPS multi-purpose helicopters, mainly for Anti Submarine Warfare (ASW). It was to fulfil the obligations of the US-Japanese ballistic missiles defence programme. It is also for supporting operations within the US 7th fleet area of operations. The commanding officer of the USS Shiloh Captain Adam Cheatham said that for nearly two decades, USS Shiloh provided the forward-deployed naval forces with the agility and firepower to support the carrier operations, protect sea lanes, deter aggression, and reassure allies and partners across the Indo-Pacific. He also said that they have also built long-lasting personal and professional relationships in Japan which will stay with them forever. Shiloh’s contributions were significant, reinforcing valuable connections over shared visions for a free and open Indo-Pacific. He also said that the USS Shiloh made a difference during her time deployed to Yokosuka and they are proud of it. He said that on behalf of the crew he wants to offer his deep gratitude to the people of Japan and their community of friendship over the years and it will never be forgotten. The US 7th Fleet exercises operational control of its units through designed task forces or task groups. These groups are organized along domain and functional lines. Shiloh is assigned to Commander, Task Force (CTF), 70, the theatre strike warfare commander and theatre air and missile defence commander. CTF70 is forward deployed to the US 7th Fleet area of operations in support of a free and open Indo-Pacific. The US 7th Fleet is the largest forward deployed fleet in the world and with the help of and network of alliances and partners from 35 other nations. The US Navy has operated in the Indo-Pacific region for more than 70 years to provide credible and ready forces to preserve peace and avoid any conflicts.
