President Donald Trump said he was surprised that Attorney General William Barr told reporters he did not expect an investigation into the origins of the FBI's Russia investigation to lead to criminal probes of either Trump's presidential rival, Joe Biden, or former President Barack Obama.

Speaking at a news conference Monday, Barr the Justice Department would not be swayed by political pressure to investigate the president's opponents and that the "criminal justice system will not be used for partisan political ends."

The comments follow a number of statements and tweets by Trump claiming, without evidence, that Obama committed unspecified crimes as president.

Asked about Barr's comments at a White House event Monday, Trump said he has "absolutely no doubt that Obama and Biden were involved" in the FBI's Russia probe.

"As to whether or not it was criminal, I would think it would be very serious, very, very serious. It was a takedown of a president regardless of me," Trump said.

Still, he said he wouldn't get involved in Barr's decision, calling the attorney general a "great, honorable man."

Trump was also asked if he saw former President Obama's speeches over the weekend, to which Trump responded that  Obama "was an incompetent president."

"I think President Obama was one of the worst presidents in the history of our country," Trump said. He didn't respond to whether or not he had watched Obama's appearances.
