Four days before the election and with the candidates in the critical final stretch, President Donald Trump campaigned in the swing state of Michigan Friday, promising "a tremendous victory" and a "red wave the likes of which has never been seen."
Trump made the comments as polls show him trailing rival Joe Biden in both Michigan and nationally.
But Trump brushed off any dire predictions, insisting his voters were mostly waiting until Election Day to cast their ballots.
"I could say go to vote on Saturday or Sunday or Monday. They really want to vote on Election Day," he said.
Trump's visit came as the number of COVID-19 cases reached a record high nationally. But he slammed Biden for his prediction of a dark winter ahead.
"Just what our country needs is a long dark winter and a leader who talks about it," Trump said.
The president also said without any evidence that doctors "get more money" to declare that a patient died from COVID, blaming the high U.S. death rate on that.
"In Germany and other places, if you have a heart attack or if you have cancer, you're terminally ill, you catch cold, they say you died of cancer, you died of heart attack. With us, when in doubt, choose COVID," he said.
Trump’s closing sprint to Election Day also includes four stops in Pennsylvania on Saturday and nearly a dozen events in the final 48 hours across states he carried in 2016.
