A former government contractor who famously gave President Trump's motorcade a one-finger salute won a local election on November 05. Juli Briskman, who ran as a Democrat, defeated Republican Suzanne Volpe for the Loudon County Board of Supervisors, Algonkian District. The 52-year-old shot fame back in 2017 after a photographer captured her giving the finger to President Trump after which she even lost her job as a marketing analyst for the federal contractor Akima LLC.
She has campaigned on issues including funding local schools and expanding green space in the community which allowed her to take a stand against the Trump policies. The Virginia Democrats have swept in the legislative and local elections. This marks the third election in a row that Virginia Democrats have made significant gains since President Trump was elected.
'Upset by Trump administration'
Back in 2017, Briskman a longtime resident of the country was cycling past the president's motorcade while it escorting the United States President. It was then when she was caught flipping off the line of SUVs. She told an international media outlet that she was upset by Trump's administration plan to end the immigration policy Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) as well as his response to the disaster in Puerto Rico during Hurricane Maria. She soon had to resign from her job as she was told that she violated the company's social media policy on obscenity. She, however, filed a lawsuit against the company alleging that they were afraid that the Trump administration would retaliate against them and end its contracts because of the photo. It was after getting fired she decided to run as a Supervisor for the Algonkian District.
