The fourth-grader from Kfar Saba, central Israel was abducted with his mother and grandparents while visiting their kibbutz, Nir Oz, along the Gaza border during a holiday.

Ohad's cherished uncle lost his life in the attack. Subsequently, the boy along with his mother and grandparents went missing with the only lead being a cellphone signal traced to Gaza.

He shall be celebrating his 9th birthday on Monday. The Israeli ambassador to the United States, Michael Herzog, launched an international social media campaign calling on people to send him virtual birthday cards.

Ohad's adored Israeli soccer team and notable athletes sent recorded birthday wishes, expressing hopes for his safe return. In his hometown of Kfar Saba, yellow balloons with messages acknowledging his birthday in captivity adorned the area, accompanied by various local initiatives.
