New Delhi: David Dutch, a 57-year-old Marine veteran and one of the two survivors of the July 13 assassination attempt on former President Trump in Butler, Pennsylvania, has shared his first comments since being discharged from Allegheny County General Hospital last month. Dutch was shot twice while in the bleachers behind Trump's stage when the shooting began at 6:11 p.m. on July 13. "David, his wife, Sheree, and the rest of the Dutch family wish to express their sincerest gratitude for the enormous level of support that they have received from their friends, their fellow Americans, and everyone else, whether domestic or abroad, that have kept David and his family in their prayers," Fox News quoted a statement from the Dutch family, which was provided through their lawyer. Dutch had suffered gunshot injuries to his chest and liver while he was positioned behind the stage during Trump's speech. He was initially placed in a medically induced coma for treatment.In a statement to Fox News, Dutch and his wife also expressed gratitude towards "the brave men and women that saved his life, including, but not limited to, the police officers, the medics, the life flight crew, and the medical professionals of Allegheny General Hospital, as well as those who continue to care for him as he navigates the road to recovery."David Dutch and his family also conveyed their condolences to the family of Corey Comperatore, who lost his life shielding his wife and daughters from the gunshots at the rally. They also lauded James Copenhaver, who survived two gunshot wounds while exercising his right to support a political candidate. He (Dutch) then expressed his gratitude to Trump, who remained steadfast despite the danger, continuing his mission to rebuild the United States and restore its position as the world's leading economic and military power. "President Trump, did not cower in the face of danger and continues his fight to make America great again and restore America’s position as the most powerful and economically sound country in the world," the statement read. Recently, a Pakistani citizen was charged in a complex plot that resembles a spy thriller, aimed at assassinating Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump. On Tuesday, US Attorney General Merrick Garland announced charges against Asif Raza Merchant, though he did not explicitly name Trump as the target.Garland noted that the Justice Department has been actively working to counter Iran's persistent efforts to retaliate against American officials in response to the killing of Iranian General Qassem Soleimani.The accused reportedly informed officials that he has two wives—one in Pakistan and one in Iran—and children in both countries.In a separate incident last week, a man was arrested in Virginia for allegedly threatening to kill Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris.
