Yet to Find Reason Behind 17 Mysterious Deaths in Rajouri: J&K CM Omar Abdullah

A senior Madhya Pradesh government official on Tuesday assured robust arrangements for safe disposal of 337 tonnes of waste from Bhopal's Union Carbide factory at a unit in Pithampur town and said he will himself be present when the incineration process commences.

The waste disposal at Pithampur, an industrial town in adjoining Dhar district, faced hurdles after protests erupted early this month when container trucks carrying the hazardous material from Bhopal reached a facility, around 250km from the state capital, for incineration.

Of the 699 candidates in the fray for the February 5 Delhi assembly elections, 96 are women as parties jockey to woo women voters to win the polls.

Five years earlier, 76 of the 672 candidates were women. Among three key political parties in the elections, the BJP and AAP have fielded nine female candidates each whereas the Congress has seven women nominees. All three parties have fielded more women candidates this time than the 2020 Assembly polls.

BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla says, "Priyanka Gandhi is saying that people tremble on seeing Rahul Gandhi. I agree with this. Congress people tremble a lot. They tremble so much that they have requested Rahul Gandhi not to give speeches in Delhi, otherwise AAP will start winning. People of his own party tremble at him."

On the 'State Foundation Day of Manipur, Tripura & Meghalaya', Tripura Governor, Indrasena Reddy says, "Students, professionals, workers here, scientists, all of them were invited here. There was interaction with them about the specialities of their states. What is the history of the states, what was their role in the freedom struggle, and the memorials of those who fought against the British in the freedom struggle...There was a good discussion about the states..."

On the INDIA alliance, CPI MP P Sandosh Kumar says, "Congress should understand the political situation and with their statements, they are day by day opposing the concept of INDIA alliance, knowingly or unknowingly. They are opposing their allies. They opposed its ally in Kerala. Now in Delhi, the same thing is happening. Congress, being the major partner of the INDIA alliance, should be more cautious and more vigilant and should be wise in making political statements. These unwise, illogical statements made by Congress leaders are quite unacceptable, whether it is in Delhi or in Kerala."

On his meeting with the family of RG Kar rape & murder case victim, West Bengal lop and BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari says

"I am standing with the family since the first day...I have talked to the parents. We support the family's decision to reject the compensation and move to the higher courts for the further fight..."

While campaigning for Congress in Delhi, independent MP from Purnea, Pappu Yadav says, "Arvind Kejriwal advertises using public money. Arvind Kejriwal has not fulfilled even a single promise. What new promises are you making now...These people have cheated Purvanchal so much that we remember Congress today. AAP has looted the people."

Delhi minister & AAP candidate from Babarpur assembly seat Gopal Rai says, "People of Delhi want work and for work, they need Kejriwal's government... BJP has no leader, there was a tussle even when the manifesto that they brought. Now they have brought the second piece of the manifesto and a panchayat is going on for the third one."
 

BJP leader on Tuesday accused Arvind Kejriwal of misusing official machinery of AAP-ruled Punjab in New Delhi constituency fearing defeat in the upcoming polls. No immediate reaction was available from the AAP ruling Delhi and Punjab. 

BJP candidate from New Delhi Parvesh Verma in a press conference charged that AAP convener Arvind Kejriwal, desperate over an "imminent" defeat in New Delhi, was getting Chinese CCTV cameras installed in the slums of the constituency just for the show, with the help of the party-ruled Punjab government.

The rupee pared initial gains and settled for the day lower by 13 paise to 86.58 against US dollar on Tuesday, tracking heavy sell-off in the domestic equity market and a recovery in the US dollar index. Forex traders said the dollar weakened from its 109 levels but clawed back to 108.66 as Donald Trump declared tariffs against Canada and Mexico in the near future but stopped short of declaring any tariffs against China.

India and China should handle the bilateral ties from a "strategic height and long-term perspective" while implementing the common understanding reached by the leaders of the two countries, the Chinese Foreign Ministry said on Tuesday.

The ministry was reacting to External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar’s recent remarks that the India-China relationship is trying to disentangle itself from the complications arising from the post-2020 border situation and more thought needs to be given to the longer-term evolution of the ties.

Himachal Pradesh Assembly LoP Jairam Thakur says, “Arvind Kejriwal is in such a state of confusion right now, he does not know what he is saying. And such a situation arises when power is slipping out of hand. If KG to PG is mentioned in the BJP's 'Sankalp Patra', is a very good step that has been taken by the BJP leadership. We will also help in coaching and for competitive exams, we have also announced arrangements for that...The BJP in its manifesto has mentioned 300 units, not 200 units of free electricity…Certainly, in this election, Delhi has decided that the BJP has to be brought to power here with a big majority so that the double-engine government, the central government and the state government of Delhi can work together for the development of Delhi.”

On 'Jai Bapu, Jai Bhim, Jai Samvidhan' rally, Karnataka Assembly LoP, R Ashoka says, "It is duplicate Congress and Gandhis. Did Sonia Gandhi go to jail or did Rahul Gandhi go to jail for freedom? No. This is a duplicate Congress doing this program in the name of real 'Gandhi'. They looted money from the people here. The looted money has been transferred to Belagavi..."

Congress MP Jairam Ramesh says, "It is the RSS ideology that killed Mahatma Gandhi. Godse belonged to the RSS. It was the RSS environment, Savarkar and everybody else who inspired Godse to kill Mahatma Gandhi. They have never accepted the Constitution, Mahatma Gandhi or BR Ambedkar. Mohan Bhagwat just a few days ago has insulted the entire freedom movement and Amit Shah has insulted Dr Ambedkar in Rajya Sabha on 17th December..."

BJP candidate from New Delhi assembly constituency, Parvesh Verma says, "...Punjab CM, all the ministers and MLAs of Punjab have come here only for the New Delhi constituency. Thousands of vehicles having Punjab numbers are moving here - who are there in those vehicles? Republic Day preparations are going on, what big thing those people are going to do that may compromise our security? Chinese CCTV cameras are being installed here by the govt employees of Punjab. A few people complained to the police as the colony is in proximity to India Gate. When they were caught - they said that AAP had sent them to install CCTV... I have filed a complaint in Election Commission and Police..."

On the Milkipur by-election, SP MP Dimple Yadav says, "...BJP wants the Samajwadi Party to lose the Milkipur by-election by using a well-planned conspiracy... But I am hopeful that the Samajwadi Party will put an end to all these conspiracies and win this by-election..."

SP MP Dimple Yadav says, "...It is not the BJP people who decide who will take a dip where. It is the right of a human being to decide where he will take a dip... We are constantly hearing such things that the arrangements that should have been made are not there in Maha Kumbh... The administration and the government should ensure that all kinds of facilities are provided to the devotees in Maha Kumbh so that it does not happen again..."

Jammu Police ADG calls recent gangwar and security breach near the Republic Day venue near Jewel Chowk area of Jammu, a "normal incident." The attack, which killed Sumit Jandiyal, is linked to a gang rivalry, with no terror angle. Investigation is underway.

On mysterious deaths in Jammu & Kashmir's Rajouri, CM Omar Abdullah says, "The day when we got the information, the health department along with other departments have been working to understand the causes behind such incidents... Tests were done, and we reached the conclusion that there were no bacteria or viruses - that caused those deaths. Later, we found that all those deaths happened in three families. But, we are yet to find the reason behind 17 deaths... Since it's not a disease, police are also involved in it and they have formed a team to investigate the matter. Central govt team is also there - and we together will look into the incidents to find the reason behind all these deaths..."

Deputy CM DK Shivakumar says "Today, a very important message has been given by Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra. Rahul Gandhi's health was not good, so he could not come. There was a massive crowd here. A good message has gone to save Bapu's ideology and Ambedkar's principles and to protect the Constitution.
