Malegaon Blast Accused Demands Ban on Film ‘Match fixing-The Nation at Stake’

Mumbai: A film based on ‘saffron terrorism’ and Malegaon Bomb Blast 2008 named ‘Match Fixing-The Nation at Stake’ is set to release on November 15. As the hearing in the Malegaon Blast Case is in the final stage, one of the accused in this case Sameer Sharad Kulkarni has filed an application before the Special NIA Court seeking ban on the release of the film. 

The application states that the movie is based on a subject related to the Malegaon blast case and the trial is not yet over so the release of the movie should be stopped by the court which is scheduled for 15th November.

The applicant and the accused Sameer Kulkarni while speaking to Republic said, "There is a courts order regarding this that there should be no opinion-based debate or nothing should be broadcasted on Media which is not facts, this is the court's order, it's true that I am one of the scapegoat or victims of the theory of "Saffron Terrorism" cooked by the then UPA Govt. but at this point of time the real victims who died and got injured due to the blast are yet awaiting justice and as the matter is still subjudice."

“I believe this film, if released, could create a law and order situation in the country, there could be a hidden agenda of the people who may want to get political mileage or maybe sympathy but my appeal to the court is very serious Bcz as the matter is subjudice and on the final stage any opinion based film may influence the trail hence the release of the film should be aborted,” he added.

Malaegon Blast Incident 

On September 29, 2008, about six people lost their lives in the Malegaon bomb blast, while more than 100 people were injured in this blast. There are a total of seven accused in this case,  Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur, Colonel Shrikant Prasad Purohit, Major Ramesh Upadhyay, Ajay Rahirkar, Sudhakar Dhan Dwivedi, Sudhakar Omkarnath Chaturvedi and Sameer Kulkarni. This case has been going on in the court for the last 16 years, in which India's premier investigating agency National Investigation Agency has given a clean chit to Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur

There are a total of 323 witnesses in the case of which 37 witnesses have turned hostile. 

The final argument is in the final stage and JP Mishra Defence Lawyer of Accused number one Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur has denied all the allegations against Sadhvi by disowning the vehicle used in the blast and also denied that neither she was present in the alleged conspiracy meetings.

Currently, the argument is underway for accused no 4 Major Upadhyay meanwhile a written argument has been filed by the intervenors advocate on behalf of the victims and have prayed for maximum punishment for all the accused.
