This isn't the first time CM Yogi has led his cabinet to the Sangam. In 2019, during the Kumbh Mela, he took a ceremonial dip along with his ministers, Akhada Parishad President Narendra Giri, and other saints.

Name and shame people damaging public property: Dhankhar
Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar on Wednesday said those damaging public property should be held accountable and stressed the need to "name and shame" them.
Addressing a group of students here, he also questioned those who take to the streets after being issued notices by authorities for damaging public property.
"Destruction of public property, stone pelting on trains, setting fire to government buildings -- where are we heading? Society has to rise in unison to name and shame these people. The system has to work in a manner to hold them accountable and penalise them fiscally also," he said.
Highlighting his concern for violation of law and orchestration of public disorder, Dhankhar said people should not take kindly to disturbance of public order.

RG Kar: Victim's parents, doctors want CBI to conduct further probe into case
With the CBI planning to file an appeal before the Calcutta High Court seeking death sentence for Sanjay Roy, sentenced to life in jail till death by a city court in the RG Kar rape-murder case, the father of the deceased doctor said they respect the lower court's judgment but urged the probe agency to ensure the arrest and punishment of other criminals involved in the case.
Speaking to PTI, the father said, "I will seek the advice of my counsel to understand the move of the central probe agency." Doctors in West Bengal, who have been protesting and asserting that Roy's conviction does not deliver justice to the victim, said they would want the CBI to conduct a thorough investigation to uncover the truth behind the killing of their colleague.
"I just came to know about CBI planning to file an appeal before the Calcutta High Court seeking death sentence for Sanjay Roy, but was unable to understand the implications of it. I will talk to my lawyer before commenting on this. However, I would like to say that I respect the verdict of the judge of the Sealdah court. The CBI must investigate and arrest all the other criminals involved in murdering my daughter," the father told PTI.

DMK MP A Raja on Wednesday wrote to waqf panel chief Jagdambika Pal on behalf of the opposition to postpone the proposed sittings of the joint parliamentary committee proposed on January 24 and 25.
In a letter to the waqf parliamentary panel chief, Raja said it is practically not possible for the members to recollect the evidence and materials essentially needed for the moving of the amendments and discussion on the waqf bill at such a short notice.
He said during the tour programme to meet various stakeholders in Lucknow on Tuesday, the members had requested Pal to postpone the meeting of JPC proposed on January 24 and 25 for taking up the bill clause by clause.
The panel is examining the waqf bill after it was introduced in Lok Sabha during the monsoon session of Parliament in August last year.

Odisha to place demand of Rs 12.56 lakh crore before 16th Finance Commission: CM
Ahead of the 16th Finance Commission's scheduled visit to Odisha, the state government on Wednesday decided to submit a demand of Rs 12,56,148 crore for the next five years.
Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi made the announcement after the proposal was approved at the cabinet meeting.
The cabinet also passed nine other proposals across various departments, including school and mass education, higher education, energy, law, industries, E&IT, agriculture, panchayati raj, drinking water, and health and family welfare.
Briefing reporters, Majhi said the 16th Finance Commission is scheduled to visit the state for three days from February 5. "During the Finance Commission’s visit, the state will place a demand for Rs 12,56,148 crore for next five years from 2026 to 2031," he said.
Key cabinet approvals include the decision to offer a customised incentive package of 50 per cent for RIR Power Electronics Limited (RIR), which plans to establish India’s first Silicon Carbide (SiC) semiconductor manufacturing facility in Bhubaneswar.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minster Yogi Adityanath on Wednesday held a cabinet meeting at Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj and approved significant proposals and schemes for the state.
After the meeting, CM Yogi announced that three medical colleges would be established in Hathras, Kasganj and Baghpat. He further added that 62 Industrial Training Institute and 5 centres of Innovation, invention and training will be established across the state.
The decision to renew Uttar Pradesh Aerospace and Defence and employment policy was taken at the meeting. Additionally, to bolster investment in the state, the UP government will announce new incentives.
"Uttar Pradesh Aerospace and Defence and employment policy has completed 5 years. It will be renewed. New incentives have been announced to attract more investment," Yogi said.

CM Siddaramaiah announces Rs 3 lakh compensation for road accident victims' families
Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has announced a compensation of Rs three lakh each to the next of kin of those who died in the two separate road accidents in Uttara Kannada, Raichur districts on Wednesday morning. In the Uttara Kannada accident, 11 people died and in Raichur, four people died.
"The state government will provide a compensation of Rs. 3 lakh each to the families of those who died in two separate accidents that occurred in Yellapur in Uttara Kannada district and Sindhanur in Raichur district," Siddaramaiah said in a post on X.
"In addition, arrangements will be made for free treatment of those injured in the accident. Haste, speeding, and carelessness are the causes of accidents. I appeal to you to drive carefully and be safe," he added.

Karnataka accident: Death toll goes up to 11, as one injured succumbs
The death toll in an accident that occurred at Arebile area in Karnataka's Uttara Kannada on Wednesday morning rose to 11 as one of the injured succumbs to injuries while undergoing treatment.
SF Kammar, KMC hospital Director says, " One patient was brought dead ( to the hospital). The rest of the 11 injured are admitted to our emergency department...these patients are going to be evaluated, right now they are out of danger but continuous monitoring is required..."
The victims were told to be vegetable sellers who were travelling to Kumta market from Savanur to sell vegetables when the truck they were travelling in toppled and fell into a 50-metre-deep valley.

Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah condoles deaths in twin road accidents
Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has condoled the deaths of 14 people in the two separate road accidents that took place in Uttara Kannada and Raichur districts of the State on Wednesday morning.
"It was heartbreaking to hear the news that a total of 14 people died in two separate accidents in Yellapur in Uttara Kannada district and Sindhanur in Raichur district," Siddaramaiah said in a post on X.
The chief minister said that the victims' families would be provided appropriate compensation by the government.
"I pray for the souls of the deceased to rest in peace. My condolences to the grieving people who lost their loved ones in these tragic events. The families of the deceased will be provided appropriate compensation by the government," the chief minister said.
Ten people were killed and 15 injured after a truck carrying them overturned Yellapur in Uttara Kannada this morning, said the police.

A fire broke out at the office of a car dealing firm in Mumbai's Kalina area on Wednesday morning, officials said.

Successful mock drill conducted for Uttarakhand UCC Portal
The Uttarakhand Government's Information Technology Development Agency (ITDA) has conducted a mock drill for the Uttarakhand Uniform Civil Code Portal, marking a significant step in the portal's operational readiness ahead of its official rollout.
During the exercise, more than 3,500 citizens (dummy entries) registered on the portal, and action was taken on around 200 dummy applications by sub-registrars and registrars. Additionally, 7,728 officer IDs were successfully created.
The primary objective of this mock drill was to identify technical bottlenecks and operational challenges associated with the rollout of the UCC Portal, and this goal was successfully achieved during the exercise.

Mahakumbh: Despite chilly weather, devotees take dip in Sangam
Despite cold conditions, a large congregation of devotees gathered at the Triveni Sangam in Prayagraj on Wednesday to take a dip in the ongoing Mahakumbh.
As of today, close to 8.81 crore people have already taken a dip in the sacred confluence of Ganga, Yamuna and mystical Saraswati.
On Wednesday morning, morning Aarti was also performed at Ghats.

Foggy weather disrupted train and flight services in Delhi on Wednesday.
Several flights at the Indira Gandhi International Airport were delayed due to fog. Nine trains originating from various stations to Delhi were running late as well.
The trains running late include Brahmaputra Mail (15658), Poorva Express (12303), Purushottam Express (12801), and GCT ANVT SF EXP (22433).
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), fog conditions were detected over parts of North Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal, and patches over the Northeast.
Delhi recorded a temperature of 10.4 degrees Celsius at 5.30 am today.

Delhi: 18-year-old college student dies by suicide, jumps from ninth floor
An 18-year-old boy has died by suicide after falling from the ninth floor of the Maharaja Agrasen College in Delhi, police said.
According to the police, the deceased has been identified as Parth Rawat, a resident of Ghaziabad in Uttar Pradesh, who was enrolled in the Bachelor of Commerce (B.Com) programme, studying in the first year.
The police rushed to the spot after receiving the information about the incident on January 20. "On 20.01.2025, a PCR Call was received at PS Aman Vihar that a boy has been brought dead at Hospital," the statement by the Delhi police said.

The Indian Army in a series of successful joint operations, with police and other security forces, recovered weapons, ammunition and warlike stores from hill and valley regions of four Manipur districts including Churchandpur, an official release said.
"In a series of successful joint operations, Indian Army in coordination with Manipur Police and other security forces, recovered 12 weapons, ammunition and warlike stores from both hill and valley regions in the districts of Thoubal, Kangpokpi, Churchandpur and Tengnupal in Manipur," the release said on Tuesday.

3 killed as car rams into truck parked on roadside in UP's Jhansi
Three men were killed when their car rammed into a truck parked on the roadside in this Uttar Pradesh district on Tuesday, police said.
The accident took place in the Babina area on the Jhansi-Lalitpur national highway in the evening, they said, adding that the driver of the car lost control over the vehicle while trying to save a puppy.
Circle Officer, Sadar, Alok Kumar said Karan Vishwakarma, a resident of Siya village in the Chirgaon area of Jhansi district, got engaged to a woman in Lalitpur on Tuesday. After the engagement, he was returning to Chirgaon in a car along with two companions, when a puppy suddenly came in front of the vehicle near the Babina toll plaza at around 6:30 pm.
In an attempt to save the animal, the driver lost control over the car, which rammed into a truck parked on the roadside, the officer said.

Police seize Rs 47 lakh in cash from car in south Delhi
Police have seized Rs 47 lakh in cash from a car during a routine check in south Delhi's Sangam Vihar area, officials said on Tuesday.
The vehicle, which was being driven by Vaseem Malik (24), a resident of Sangam Vihar and a self-proclaimed scrap dealer, was intercepted by the Static Surveillance Team (SST).
Malik could not provide the required documentation for the cash, prompting officials to seize the amount. Authorities are investigating the source of the money and further action is being taken in accordance with legal protocols, the officials said.
