UP: Lucknow University plans to introduce 'positives' of CAA in political science syllabus
Lucknow University plans to introduce a chapter on the positives of CAA in the course of political science following a debate on the same in February.

Even as Uttar Presh records highest death toll in anti-CAA agitation, 19 according to government, Luckw University plans to introduce a chapter on 'positives' of CAA in course of political science. As per reports, university ministration has planned to hold a debate on contentious new citizenship law in month of February. Following debate by political science department, a proposal will be sent for inclusion of positive aspects of CAA in syllabus.

Speaking to media, Shashi Shukla, He of Department of Political Science at Luckw University, reasoned that move is needed to clarify people about law. “re is a proposal for a paper under subject ‘contemporary issue in Indian politics’ and including CAA in it is under consideration. We will include it in syllabus and put it on board as a proposal. If passed it will be sent to Acemic Council and once it is cleared, studies will start," he said.

Anti-CAA agitation
BJP government has drawn huge flak from citizens across India against CAA that fast-tracks citizenship for n-Muslim immigrants from neighbouring Pakistan, Afghanistan and Banglesh. government says law is necessary to provide relief to thousands of people fleeing persecution in those countries because of ir faith. Opponents of law contend that bill purposely leaves out Muslim immigrants and does t provide relief to those fleeing similar persecution in neighbouring Sri Lanka and Myanmar.

Violence in UP
Protests against CAA have turned violent in many towns of UP where a statewide prohibitory order was in place for days in December to quell protests. Yogi government and UP Police have come under intense criticism for alleged police brutality while curbing demonstrations, most tably in Meerut and Firozab. Periodic internet shutdowns were also one of tactics employed by state that sought to curb dissent.
