National Approval Ratings: In Uttar Pradesh, Mahagathbandhan likely to take lead as NDA's seat-share projected to dwindle

In just a few days, India will begin the largest exercise in democratic franchise anywhere in the world, and one with high stakes at that, as over 900 million citizens get set to vote in their preferred candidate and party to 543 Parliamentary seats.

The 2019 Lok Sabha Elections are high upon us. In just a few days, India will begin the largest exercise in democratic franchise anywhere in the world, and one with high stakes at that, as over 900 million citizens get set to vote in their preferred candidate and party to 543 Parliamentary seats. With the poll clouds having well-and-truly spread across the Indian sub-continent, Republic TV and CVoter have presented the National Approval Ratings i.e the biggest opinion poll ahead of the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. 

Here's the projected breakdown of seat share and vote share for the industrial state Uttar Pradesh:

Seat Share:

  • UPA: 4 seat
  • NDA: 32 seats
  • MGB: 44 seats

COMPARISION TO PREVIOUS NATIONAL APPROVAL RATINGS: 

March: BJP-led NDA's figures in alliance with Apna Dal was predicted to fall massively down to 32 seats. However, the Gathbandhan of SP and BSP in the state was predicted to make gains by winning 44 seats.

January: BJP-led NDA's figures in alliance with Apna Dal was predicted to fall massively down to just 25 seats. However, the Gathbandhan of SP and BSP in the state was predicted to make big gains by winning 51 seats, 1 seat more than the December projection of the National Approval Ratings.

December: BJP-led NDA's figures in alliance with Apna Dal are predicted to fall massively down from 73 to just 28 seats. However, the gathbandhan of SP and BSP in the state was predicted to make big gains by winning 50 seats, 8 seats more than the November projection of the National Approval Ratings.

November: Coming as a big worry for PM Modi, Amit Shah and UP CM Yogi Adityanath, the ruling coalition dropped from 73 seats in 2014 to just 31 Lok Sabha seats. The Rahul Gandhi-led UPA, which won just 2 seats in 2014, saw an increase to 5 seats, while the traditional Uttar Pradesh regional powers (and former rivals), Samajwadi Party and Bahujan Samaj Party, were projected to be the biggest gainers, increasing their combined seat share from just 5 in 2014 (of which BSP won none) to 44.

(The results of the 2019 Lok Sabha elections may or may not reflect the results or scenarios of the elections, nevertheless, to establish where we stand at present, Republic TV and CVoter has presented the National Approval Ratings.)
