Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, during an election rally on December in poll-bound Telangana, has said that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is ready to rename Hyderabad as Bhagyanagar, if voted to power in the state.
"If you are keen to rename Hyderabad as Bhagyanagar, then vote for BJP in the elections," Adityanath said, as per PTI.
Addressing an election rally in the Goshamahal constituency in Telangana in support of BJP candidate T Raja Singh Lodh, Yogi Adityanath said he has especially come to campaign for him as he (Singh) was working towards renaming Hyderabad to Bhagyanagar.
Speaking to news agency ANI, BJP MLA Raja Singh also said, "Earlier, Hyderabad was Bhagyanagar and in 1590 Quli Qutub Shah came to Hyderabad, he changed Bhagyanagar to Hyderabad. At that time many Hindus were attacked and many temples destroyed. We are planning to rename Hyderabad."
"In Telangana, BJP will win in a majority and then our first aim will be developing the state and second objective will be renaming Hyderabad as Bhagyanagar. We will also change the names of Secunderabad and Karimnagar," Raja Singh added.
Raja Singh had on several occasions earlier said BJP would aim to rename Hyderabad and other cities in the state after the names of great people if the party was elected to power.
Earlier, the BJP-Yogi Adityanath led government in Uttar Pradesh changed the name of Allahabad to Prayagray and Faizabad district to Ayodhya.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on the eve of Diwali had announced that Faizabad district would henceforth be known as Ayodhya. "Ayodhya is a symbol of our 'aan, baan aur shaan' (honour, pride and prestige)," Adityanath said in Ayodhya. The BJP government in the northern state had already renamed Allahabad as Prayagraj.
Meanwhile, Telangana and Rajasthan are all set to go into assembly polls on December 7. Counting of the votes will take place on December 11.
