Haryana assembly elections: 1,168 candidates set to contest 90 seats

As deline for withdrawal of mination ends, a total number of 1,168 are set to contest for upcoming assembly elections in Haryana scheduled to be held on October 21. last date for withdrawal of mination by candidates was October 7. Joint Chief Electoral Officer Dr Inder Jeet stated on Monday that, "A total number of 1,168 candidates will contest on 90 assembly seats in Haryana Assembly elections.”

EC allots election symbols
Election Commission (EC) also allotted election symbols to various political parties contesting Assembly polls -2019 in state. Giving district-wise details, Dr Inder Jeet said, after withdrawal of names, 36 candidates from Ambala, 58 from Jhajjar, 57 from Kaithal, 44 from Kurukshetra, 66 from Sirsa and 118 from Hisar, are left in election fray.
"Similarly, 46 candidates from Yamunanagar district, 45 from Mahendragarh, 27 from Charkhi district, 41 from Rewari, 63 from Jind, 24 from Panchkula, 50 from Fatehab will contest elections," Inder jeet said.
Meanwhile, 58 candidates from Rohtak district, 40 from Panipat, 35 from Mewat, 72 from Sonipat, 69 from Faridab, 71 from Bhiwani, 59 from Karnal and 54 from Gurgaon and 35 candidates from Palwal will be contesting Assembly polls. polling will be held on October 21 and counting of votes will take place on October 24.

Setback for Congress
In a huge setback to Congress party ahe of assembly polls in Haryana, its former state chief Ashok Tanwar resigned from party on October 5. Even as Congress party named its former Haryana chief as a star campaigner for upcoming assembly polls, he has resigned saying that reasons to quit party are kwn to all. His decision comes amid reports of tussle in Haryana Congress between Tanwar and Bhupinder Singh Hooda. Days ahe of move by Tanwar, he was also removed from post of Haryana Congress chief, and Kumari Selja was named as party's state president.

PM Modi to kickstart BJP's campaign
Meanwhile, prior to Haryana Assembly polls, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will kickstart BJP campaign in State from October 14. PM Modi, star campaigner of BJP, will be dressing four rallies across Haryana over two days.
