Ananya Birla is an Indian singer, songwriter, entrepreneur and mental health advocate. In 2016, Birla signed with Universal Music India. She became the founder and CEO of CuroCarte, an inventory-based global luxury e-commerce platform. She is the eldest child of the sixth richest Indian, Kumar Mangalam Birla, who is the Chairman of Aditya Birla Group and Neerja Birla. The singer is the sixth-generation scion of the Birla family.
Ananya's Musical career
Ananya Birla developed a liking for music at a very early age. The talented start started her musical journey by learning to play the santoor when she was just eleven years old. She had started her economics and management degree at Oxford University but dropped out without completing her degree. While she was at the University, Birla started singing and playing the guitar at local pubs and clubs. Reportedly, these gigs further helped her gain confidence and exposed her to several genres of music. She also began writing her own music and became the first Indian artist with the English language single to be a chartbuster in India. Her first five songs hit the 150 million mark on streaming platforms, with singles Meant To Be, Livin the Life, Hold On, Circles and Better achieving platinum status.
Ananya's Business Career
She has started an initiative by the name, Svatantra Microfin, at the age of 17. The organisation makes small loans to female entrepreneurs based in rural parts of India. She managed to get her organisation the Gold Award for Best Start-Up. She became the founder and CEO of CuroCarte, an inventory-based global luxury e-commerce platform. Forbes had also named her one of Asia's Women to Watch when she managed to build up this empire of hers.
