Basu Chatterjee death: Anil Kapoor, Ashutosh Gowariker hail director, recall their roles
As Basu Chatterjee passed away, Anil Kapoor and Ashutosh Gowariker hailed the director by recalling their roles. The duo shared throwback pics of their films.

Basu Chatterjee joined list of acclaimed names that have left us in last two months. Like demise of Irrfan Khan, Rishi Kapoor, tributes poured in from various fraternities, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and West Bengal Chief Minister also paying ir tributes. With filmmaker plying his tre in '70s and ‘80s, very few from current set of actors h privilege of working with him.

Some of those who featured in his films recalled ir moments and posted throwback pictures after hearing about news. Anil Kapoor was directed by Chatterjee in 1986 film Chameli Ki Shai. He was paired opposite Amrita Singh in film that was a satire on caste system of country.
Expressing his grief over death of Basu Chatterjee, Anil termed director as one who was always 'ahe of his time.' Calling him an ‘effortless genius’ and ‘amazing human being’, Nayak star ded that filmmaker will be ‘truly missed.’

Ashutosh Gowariker might be kwn as a director today, but he h started his career as an actor. He h featured in 1989 film Kamla Ki Maut. Sharing a still in a moment with Mrinal Kulkarni, Ashutosh termed Chatterjee as a ‘great director’ and termed his films as ‘gems’.
Lagaan filmmaker ded that it was a ‘great hour’ for him to work with director and called him as ‘most gentle director.’

Both films displayed Chatterjee’s affinity for characters revolving around middle class, common man, and ir life, involving romance, serious issues and often with use of satire.

Earlier, Amitabh Bachchan h also recalled this aspect as he shared experience of working with him in Manzil. Big B reminisced his ‘quiet, soft spoken, gentle’ persona and his films that reflected ‘middle India.’
Basu Chatterjee passed away in Mumbai at his Santacruz residence on Thursday. He was suffering from -related illnesses and bread his last in his sleep. He was 93. He was cremated on Thursday afteron.

Chhoti Si Baat, Chitchor, Rajanigandha, Byomkesh Bakshi, Rajni, Us Paar, Chitchor, Piya Ka Ghar, Khatta Meetha, and Baton Baton Mein were some of Basu Chatterjee's or well-kwn works. He h also won National Award for Durga in 1992.
