MTV Hustle's call to all rappers across India: Apna Time Aa Gaya

MTV Hustle is a show that airs on the channel MTV. The show is judged by the DJ and producer Nucleya, rapper and dancer Raftaar, and rapper Raja Kumari.

The rap genre has become a part of the Indian music industry. For a long time, the art of rapping was underappreciated and dismissed, assuming that it will slowly diminish. Mainstream music in India was initially reluctant to include rap. All this changed when rap stars started popping up and gained popularity. This was cemented by the 2019 movie Gully Boy, which showed the trials of a struggling rapper.

MTV Hustle is a first-of-its-kind TV reality show that focuses on the rap genre.

MTV decided to address this new hype for rap music. The channel has started a reality show named Hustle. The show airs every Saturday and Sunday at 7 pm. The show is hosted by Gaelyn Mendonca. There are three judges, Raftaar, Nucleya, and Raja Kumari.

The judges filtered 15 top contestants from more than 1000 aspiring rappers. In an interview with a newspaper daily, judge Raftaar claimed that it seemed like Hustle was made for him. He added that the format of the show is very well structured. It doesn’t matter what marks these contestants receive, they must come up with original content. They will get the deserved votes if the audience likes their work. Raftaar also believes that Hustle will prove to a platform for the new rappers to kickstart their careers.

Nucleya, the Desi DJ, calls rap in India "transformative." Nucleya also emphasizes on the importance of social media and the internet on the increasing fame of English music. Nucleya pointed out the evolution of rap from just a party element to a platform for artists to share their life experiences. He credited Baba Sehgal and Hard Kaur as being the predecessors of rap music in India. Nucleya appreciated the movie Gully Boy for having a positive effect on people.

Raja Kumari added to the comments of her fellow judges. She said that she is keen to share her knowledge and expertise with the contestants. She encouraged the contestants to find their own voice and stay true to it. All three judges seem to be excited to be a part of this new reality show.
