Shahid
Rajkummar Rao’s character in Shahid is based on the real-life of an Indian lawyer Shahid Azmi. The man was popular for taking on cases of poor Muslims falsely accused of crimes. Rajkummar’s character was himself from the slums and got sent to jail based on false accusations. After his release from jail, he goes on to study law and save innocent victims like him. Rajkummar Rao’s performance was lauded in the movie and he won a National Award for the same.
City Lights
The trio, Hansal Mehta, Apurva Asrani and Rajkummar Rao’s performance was very well received by critics and audience alike. The movie narrates the story of a simple man who migrates with his family from Rajasthan to Mumbai for better livelihood. However, the experience they have turns out to be bitter and rocks the very foundation of the man’s life. City Lights is the official remake of the Filipino film, Metro Manila.
