'Shakuntala Devi' stylist Niharika Bhasin ransacked Vidya Balan's saree; know why

Recently, Vidya Balan starrer Shakuntala Devi's stylist Niharika Bhasin explained how she worked to perfect look of math wiz. In an interview with a news portal, Niharika Bhasin talked about preparation for wardrobe of Vidya Balan's character Shakuntala Devi. Niharika stated that she ransacked Balan and her mor's personal collection of sarees.

Sneak peek into Shakuntala Devi's wardrobe

Interestingly, Niharika Bhasin asserted that  team was functioning on a tight budget, because of which, y were bound to rumm through personal wardrobe to reflect period on screen. Bhasin added that re were tons of sarees to steal from Vidya and her mor's wardrobe. Elaborating furr, she added that old printed silks and georgettes are t in vogue. However, she found some printed sarees. As Niharika wanted specific colours to stay true to period, second-hand shopping helped her achieve look she wanted.

In trailer, it is quite evident that fabrics evolved as character of Shakuntala Devi gained accolades and fame. Explaining same, Bhasin said that for younger part, y used natural fabrics like cotton. And, as she was turning more affluent, y gave her richer fabrics. She also mentioned that Shakuntala loved her sarees. But as foreign influence seeped into her life, y worked that into her wardrobe. Giving a special mention to traits of character, Niharika said Shakuntala had a spunky personality, so despite her , she retained her vivacity.

Apart from attire, Niharika also talked about styling  hair and make-up. stylist liked detailing of character. She said that from scarves, bags to her jewellery, everything has kept Shakuntala in perspective. For older sequences, y added fur capes to symbolise her affluence. Though look was about character, it was essential for everything to go with actor's look and personality. Bhasin also added that y ensured to keep craziness and excitement of Devi in contrast with seriousness of her daughter, which is played by Sanya Malhotra.

Vidya Balan's upcoming film, Shakuntala Devi, is inspired by woman named Shakuntala Devi who was also kwn as "human computer". Directed by Anu Men, movie will also feature Jisshu Sengupta, Sanya Malhotra, Amit Sadh among ors. movie is produced under banners of Sony Pictures Networks Productions and Abundantia Entertainment. Shakuntala Devi will also put forth story of achievements and ups and downs in life of late mamatician. It will start streaming on OTT platform, Amazon Prime Video from July 31, onwards.
