''Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone' turns 20 today and we have a special way of commemorating it! Attention all non-muggles! We interrupt this broadcast of the Wizarding Wireless Network (WWN) for a special announcement! Sure, the world may be a great place to live now, what with Voldy having gone moldy; but turn your time-turners back twenty years, and prepare to feel like an oldie. There was loneliness, solitude, oppression, and loss, and yet Dudley had 39 presents and thought he was the boss. Along came a giant to save the day; through Diagon Alley, they did make their way.
The Hogwarts Express stood gleaming in the sun, and in it, we met a boy with dirt on his nose, Ron. The magical castle they soon approached, but that one venomous look from Snape contained only reproach.
Transfiguration, Charms, Potions, Defense Against the Dark Arts was the need-to-knows, though when a troll came along, all that worked was sticking a wand up his nose. Still, Hermione Granger became their friend that day, and on the Quidditch pitch, Harry found he could fly up, up and away.
Draco Malfoy turned out to be a proper git; the Mirror of Erised, a captivating hit. Before too long, a mystery emerged, and for a while they couldn't get beyond the verge.
Amid dragons, centaurs and three-headed-dogs; our heroes dashed — "Sorry, Neville! No time for monologues!". They had to stop You-know-who, you see; from bagging some Elixir of Life and renewing his ways of infamy.
Twists and turns on the quest did arise; but to most of them, our lot were wise. And after an adventure that has since become lore, Harry met Professor Dumbledore!
And so ended the first year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, but don't fret — Voldemort would long remain in the periphery. A 'brief calm between two wars', Firenze had said; in later years, it would all be read. And today, Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone turns 20, so does it's magic. And so, with a big thanks to JK Rowling, it's now back to Celestina Warbeck as she stirs up her 'Cauldron Full of Hot Strong Love'!
