Warner Bros apologizes for 'The Witches' after facing heat by differently-abled community

Warner Bros had to issue public apology after facing heat for their portrayal of their characters, which could be interpreted as 'insensitive' for the disabled

Warner Bros has found itself in midst of a fresh new controversy about ir latest release, Witches. In times of social media and vital need to ensure that your content is t offensive in any way to any community, Warner Bros. has invited wrath of ‘disabled community’ for which company w has issued an apology. Let’s take a look at what led to Witches controversy.

Warner Bros invites wrath of ‘disabled community’, issues an apology

Warner Bros has come under scrutiny of quite a few people from disabled community for ir depiction of Anne Hathaway’s character in film. Many members from disabled community took to social media to express ir disapproval and protest against manner in which characters of film have been portrayed in this film. Among m was British Paralympic swimmer Amy Marren, who was amongst first ones to speak up on social media.

reason that drew such criticism against this film was because film projects character to be having three fingers. This bears a visible similarity to real-life limb deformity called ‘Ectrodactyly’, orwise kwn as ‘split hand.’ Paralympic games also joined in criticism and tweeted against it from ir official Twitter handle by saying, “Limb difference is t scary. Differences should be celebrated and disability has to be rmalised.”

Warner Bros n came out and issues a public apology after Witch controversy gained force. Speaking to Deline, spokesperson of Warner Bros said that studio was “deeply sdened to learn that our depiction of fictional characters in Witches could upset people with disabilities” and “regretted any offense caused.” He also ded, "In apting original story, we worked with designers and artists to come up with a new interpretation of cat-like claws that are described in book. It was never intention for viewers to feel that fantastical, n-human creatures were meant to represent m." With this, in a detailed apology, company dressed this sensitive issue.

Witches is an aptation of vel written by Roald Dahl with same name. Witches cast includes Anne Hathaway in le, along with Chris Rock, Stanely Tucci, Octavia Spencer, Jahzir Bru and many more. Witches was released on October 22 in United States.
