Vir Das pens gratitude for Delhi High Court, says 'in comedy offence is taken, not given'
Actor-comedian Vir Das wrote a long note thanking the High Court's judgement regarding his Netflix web series Hasmukh with emphasis on what a comedian does.

Actor-comedian Vir Das, who has been making headlines in past few days for his portrayal of a brutal stand-up comedian in Netflix series Hasmukh, took to Twitter and shared a long te of gratitude for Delhi Court for its judgement on Tuesday. Delhi High Court has refused to grant interim stay on Vir Das-starrer web series 'Hasmukh' streaming on OTT platform Netflix. plea was seeking an interim stay on web series claiming it maligned im of lawyers at large.
lawsuit was filed by a lawyer Ashutosh Dubey who said web series maligned im and reputation of advocates everywhere and demanded an injunction on airing of series or deletion of some of its content. judiciary, however, rejected his interim plea on grounds that any such order would be contrary to freedom of speech and expression guaranteed under Constitution.

Vir Das highlighted efficient manner in which verdict given by court described an artist's work with an emphasis on a stand-up comedian's job. Go Goa Gone actor wrote that he feels grateful that verdict has supported his art-form and justified content of show. Delhi High Court's verdict, as stated in Das' te, backs role of stand-up comedians to ridicule and bring out ills of society through a satire.

" very essence of democracy is that a creative artist is given liberty to project picture of society in manner he perceives. One of prime forms of exposing ills of society is by portraying a satirical picture of same. Stand-up comedians perform that very purpose. In ir portrayal, y use satire and exaggerate ills to an extent that it becomes a ridicule. In humorous portrayal of ills of society, stand-up comedians use satire."
