Army Day is celebrated on January 15 every year to mark taking over as commander-in-chief of Indian Army by n Lt Gen K M Carriappa in 1949 from General Francis Butcher, last British Commander-in-Chief of India. Carriappa later became a Field Marshal.

As part of Army Day celebrations, Gallantry Awards and Sena Medals are presented to soldiers. This year, in 2021, India is celebrating its 73rd Army Day.

Indian Army Day is observed across country with several programmes including pares and or military shows. While celebrations take place across India, main pare of Army Day is held in Cariappa Pare Ground at Delhi Cantonment. Military equipment, weapons, numerous contingents and combats are displayed during pare.
