Ahead of Panchayat polls, Andhra SEC issues notice to TDP over alleged violation of MCC

Ahead of Panchayat elections, Andhra Pradesh SEC on Saturday has issued a notice to TDP seeking a response on a complaint filed by YSR Congress Party.

Andhra Presh State Election Commissioner (SEC) Nimmagda Ramesh Kumar on Saturday issued a tice to Telugu Desam Party (TDP) seeking a response on a complaint filed by YSR Congress Party. tice said that a complaint has been received by YSR Congress Party with regard to Panchayat Elections manifesto released by TDP.

tice issued by Andhra Presh State Election Commission re, " complaint stated that manifesto is about its various schemes and promises for entire State while requesting voters to vote for Telugu Desam Party sponsored candidates, luring and inducing public violating Model Code of Conduct, whereas said elections are conducted on n-party basis, but said publication is done after releasing Schedule and Election tification."

Earlier on Friday, YSRCP (Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party) general secretary Lella Appireddy on Friday h complained to SEC that publishing and circulating manifesto for gram panchayat elections is a violation of an order issued by State Election Commission and appealed to take appropriate action. Acting on complaint,  SEC sought an explanation from TDP state general secretary M Venkata Raju. SEC asked TDP to submit its response latest by February 2, and if it failed to submit a response on time, SEC will draw necessary conclusions.

Andhra Presh SEC and ruling YSRCP have been at loggerhes since SEC h postponed local body elections almost a year ago citing Corona pandemic. YSRCP has been alleging that SEC Nimmagda Ramesh Kumar has been acting as an nt of TDP and trying to favour m. Gram Panchayat elections in Andhra Presh will be held in four phases across state next month, beginning February 9. polling for final phase of elections will be held on February 21.
