AMU students, teachers expel V-C, registrar amid protest against CAA

In an unprecedented move, soon after restoration of internet services in Aligarh on Sunday, teachers, students and n-teaching staff expelled ir Vice-Chancellor. Releasing a tice stating above, y said that y have expelled ir V-C Prof Tariq Mansoor and ir Registrar S Abdul Hamid. y tice stated that V-C and Registrar are requested to vacate V-C lodge and Registrar's lodge. tice declared that collective authority will boycott university ministration untill two resigns and leaves campus. This comes days after clashes took place between AMU students and UP Police amid protest against Citizenship Amendment Act.

Internet connection restored
Seven days after internet connections were snapped in Aligarh, following protests over Citizenship Act, authorities restored service on Sunday. Informing about shutdown District Magistrate h said on December 15, "After protest in Aligarh Muslim University by students today, it cant be denied that some anti-social elements can incite violence among people using internet services to circulate inflammatory messs or content on social media, so to prevent that internet services remain suspended from 10 pm tonight till 10 pm tomorrow." However, shutdown continued for over a week.

AMU shut till January 5
Following a clash between AMU students and Police, Registrar of AMU Abdul Hamid h said that university would remain closed till January 5, 2020, due to present situation in wake of protests against citizenship law. Earlier on Thursday, Vice-Chancellor Professor Tariq Mansoor h said, "Protestors should protest in a democratic and peaceful way. sentiments should be conveyed in a lawful manner. If t, it will be exploited politically." AMU ministration h also claimed that only 7 of those detained by Police during protest were students of AMU. This statement came as soon as three vocates released a list of 21 students and two AMU employees who y said were eir missing or h been detained without varsity authorities being informed.

On Sunday, students who were protesting h marched towards main campus gate where y were allegedly attacked by police using tear gas shells, rubber bullets, stun grenes, pellets, and stones. Students allege that police and Rapid Action Force personnel forcibly entered campus to detain protestors. While police deny se claims, over 17 policemen were injured after protestors allegedly began to vandalise public property and torched up buses, while pelting stones. More than 60 students were also injured in clashes.
