Bihar wins award for its financial assistance scheme for workers amid COVID-19 pandemic
The state won the Digital India Awards 2020 as more than 21 lakh stranded workers outside Bihar were provided with financial assistance

Amid coronavirus pandemic, Bihar government took an invative initiative to transfer financial assistance directly to bank accounts of 21 lakh stranded workers outside Bihar through 'Bihar Sahayata Mobile App'. For effort, state won Digital India Awards 2020. Chief Minister Secretariat, Disaster Manment Department besides National Informatics Centre (NIC) of state have jointly been chosen as winners in “pandemic category” Digital India Awards 2020.

" Bihar government’s initiative to transfer money directly to accounts of beneficiaries during COVID-19 pandemic has me its departments win Digital India Awards, started by central government, this year for invative steps in e-governance", an official statement said on Sunday

Digital India Awards is given by Centre for bringing to fore invative digital solutions for citizens of country. President Ram Nath Kovind will give away Digital India Awards to winners on December 30 in New Delhi.

On June 4, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar h strongly hit out at those states from where poor labourers were forced to leave after nationwide lockdown was anunced due to COVID-19. While interacting with panchayat-level public representative across Bihar, Nitish Kumar also objected to Bihari labourers being called 'Migrants'. Nitish Kumar said that every Indian citizen has right to work anywhere in India; 'How are y, migrants?' CM h raised objections against Bihari labourers being called migrants and against step- treatment by states where y worked.
In or news, Bihar Cabinet on Saturday gave its d for creation of 103 new Nagar panchayats, eight new Nagar Parish, and upgring five municipal councils to municipal corporations, an official release said. decision was taken to boost urbanization and increase state's share in central resources, release said. Cabinet meeting, chaired by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, approved Bihar Municipal (Amendment) Act 2020 in order to create/upgre/expand 160 urban local bodies.
