Congress MP from Behrampore, hir Ranjan Chowdhury took to microblogging website Twitter on Monday night and tweeted about appointment of General Bipin Rawat as Chief of Defence Staff. He took a veiled jibe at ruling government and asserted that y have appointed General Rawat as CDS by taking into consideration his "ideological" leaning.
Chowdhury ded that Indian Army is an "apolitical" institution, thus hinting at a remark me by General Rawat on ongoing protests over CAA.

hir Ranjan Chowdhury also questioned COAS on Thursday, December 26, and said that his remarks on CAA are "objectionable, unethical and beyond his remit". Chowdhury also ded that army should maintain "impartiality" and refrain from making any political comments.

COAS' comments on CAA
Indian Army chief General Bipin Rawat on Thursday slammed violence that plagued several college and university campuses during weeks-long anti-CAA agitation across India.
dressing an event in New Delhi, Rawat said that those who le students to commit violence and arson do t represent leership. This is first time Army chief spoke on agitation around Citizenship Amendment Act and National Register of Citizens (NRC).
