Chandrayaan 2: President Ram Nath Kovind says, 'country is proud'

As speculation over the fate of Chandrayaan 2’s Vikram lander continues to prevail, the President of India, Ram Nath Kovind expressed solidarity with ISRO.

As speculation over fate of Chandrayaan 2’s Vikram lander continues to prevail, President of India, Ram Nath Kovind expressed solidarity with Indian Research Organisation (ISRO). On microblogging website Twitter, he wrote that ISRO team had displayed terrific commitment and cour. Furr, he said that India was proud of ISRO. He also conveyed his best wishes for success of Chandrayaan 2.

Vikram pre-landing phase

Indian Research Organization (ISRO) Chairman K Sivan’s description of last 15 minutes of pre-landing phase of Vikram as ‘terror’ proved to be prophetic. Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived at ISRO Monitoring Centre just before descent was about to begin. first part of powered descent of Vikram lander was Rough Breaking phase. While this was successfully completed, next hurdle was Fine Breaking phase.

Rumours abound

At this juncture, anxiety in room increased manifold. As expected deadline of landing was breached, re was furr uncertainty. Several experts in field across world started expressing ir opinion. Dr. Jessie Christiansen, a National Aeronautics and Administration (NASA) research scientist wrote on microblogging website Twitter that signal was t being received from Vikram lander. She also expressed her concern for ISRO scientists who had worked so hard on this Mission.

ISRO issues a statement

Finally, re was an official update from ISRO Chairman K Sivan. According to him, descent of Vikram lander was rmal up to an altitude of 2.1 km. Subsequently, re was a loss of communication between Vikram and Earth. He also mentioned that available data was being scrutinized.
