COVID-19: AIIMS doctors use self-made hand sanitisers, masks, & PPEs amidst shortage
Medical professionals from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences have started using self-made PPEs to tackle shortage of protective gear amidst COVID-19.

Amidst soaring number of Coronavirus cases in India which has w crossed 170, medical professionals from All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) have started using self-me masks, sanitizers, and or Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs) to tackle short in availably of protective medical equipment. PPEs consist of masks, eye shields, shoe covers, gowns, and gloves which doctors wear while treating COVID19 patients.

Healthcare professionals across globe are battling with short of PPEs which y need most since y regularly come in contact with infected patients. At this st of global crisis, doctors of microbiology department at AIIMS have started to build ir own hand sanitizers and face shields (masks) in ir laboratories. This decision was taken after meeting with ministration by Dr Purva Mathur, a professor of laboratory medicine who is in charge of infection control department at AIIMS.

'PPEs provided by ministration t eugh'
"At AIIMS, we cant take any chance. PPE has been provided by ministration, but se are t eugh. So, we have to make or suitable alternatives. Apart from makeshift plastic face masks which can cover entire face, we have also prepared alcohol-based hand sanitizers as per guidelines of World Health Organisation (WHO). And it is always good to be fully prepared," said a senior doctor, from department of infection control.
Ar doctor of AIIMS revealed that as of w, y h prepared about 20 litres of makeshift hand sanitizers using WHO guidelines and 100 plastic sheet face masks. "In coming days, we would be able to prepare more of se protective items," said doctor.

'We request ministration to ensure availably'
Resident Doctor's Association (RDA) has written a letter to Director Dr Randeep Guleria requesting him to look into matter and ensure equate availably of PPEs for doctors and nurses. "A team of RDA executives inspected various wards to check supply of PPE in critical time of COVID-19 and sly most of wards do t have equate universal precautionary components, "re letter.

"We request ministration to take prompt action to ensure PPE availability around clock for safety of doctors and nurses," re letter which is written by Dr arsh Pratap Singh, President of RDA.
