Cracking down on the killing of Hindu Samaj chief Kamlesh Tiwari, Maharashtra Anti-Terror Squad (ATS) on Monday, has revealed the details of the suspect arrested by them on Saturday in a press release. The state's Nagpur ATS unit had enquired Sayyed Asim Ali - a resident of Mane Layout in Nagpur and his involvement with the conspirators. after ascertaining his role, the Maharashtra ATS arrested Ali and was produced in a Nagpur Court on Monday, by the Uttar Pradesh police.

"Based on the information received, ATS, Maharashtra conducted the operation and ATS, Nagpur unit enquired Sayyed Asim Ali. During his enquiry, it was revealed that the suspect Sayyed Asim Ali was in constant touch with other accused in this case. It is also revealed that he has played a very important role in the Shri Kamlesh Tiwari murder case. The accused was arrested by ATS, Maharashtra. Uttar Pradesh Police produced the accused before Hon’ble 5th Court, JMFC, Nagpur on 21st October 2019 and obtained his transit remand from the Hon’ble court," stated the press release.

Arrests made in Kamlesh Tiwari case
Previously on Saturday, Maharashtra ATS arrested Ali based on leads provided by the Uttar Pradesh Police. They had not revealed his details then. Meanwhile, five persons, including three from Gujarat's Surat, had been held in connection with the murder by the UP police on Saturday.

Three suspects confess to crime
Gujarat Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) DIG Himanshu Shukla on Saturday revealed that all three suspects who were detained confessed to the crime. Sources report that the Gujarat police spoke to the brother of the conspirators who had allegedly asked Tiwari for an opportunity to work with him, before his murder. Two other suspects are on the radar of the police. In a press conference held in Lucknow, UP Director-General of Police (DGP) OP Singh gave a prima facie observation that Tiwari's murder has been a radical killing. He contended that the suspected killers were allegedly radicalised by a speech that the Hindu Samaj Party delivered in 2015.

Kamlesh Tiwari's murder
Earlier on Friday, the former chief of Hindu Mahasabha Kamlesh Tiwari was shot dead in Lucknow. Kamlesh Tiwari, the leader of Hindu Mahasabha, was attacked by unidentified assailants on Friday afternoon, barging into Tiwari’s office. Soon after the attack, he was admitted to hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. While the assailants managed to flee the spot, a revolver was also recovered from the site of the crime. Police stated that the accused spent around 30 minutes with him on the pretext of gifting him, sweets.
